Thoughts
Painting in the second half of my life gives me an
extraordinary way of revisiting the first half and
prolonging the present. My relationship with family,
friends, places, experiences, objects are wonderfully
preserved and savored through memory. Allowing me
to explore in ways that I could not in real-time,
memory enables me to see from the other side. Working
mostly from observation and in series, I paint what
pleases and triggers past connection. Paint drips
and pools, brushes drag, material and marks merge
with memory, and images magically appear. I cannot
explain or name what happens, but it is the unexpected,
uncontrolled that can take my breath away, keeps me
coming back, and lures me into my future.
