I aim to make art that is aesthetically satisfying and masterful. I play with traditional perspectives and images from 16th and 17th century Dutch still life paintings and trompe l’oeil, similar to what the artist David Bierk had done in his still life work. I adore old master paintings and those of current realist still life artists. I am purposefully discovering new compositions in old paintings by playing with perspective, using ample negative space, enhancing the chroma, enlarging the scale of my objects or placing items on the canvas to discover something that is novel and dynamic, as in my mixed media work. Some of my paintings tell a story, others are about creating forms that give aesthetic pleasure. I find great joy in creating and painting. I find the act of painting irresistible.
